We are over the moon to be involved in the Pancakes & Booze pop up art show.

The one day event is taking place at Studio Spaces E1 in East London on Thursday, 24th of September 2015.

We’ve secured dozens of spots and are looking for artists to submit their candidature and exhibit their work, so keep reading on…

About

Pancake batter is sizzling, beer froth is flowing, and bare flesh is slathered in paint. Indie musicians and DJs break sound waves off the canvas-lined, graffiti-strewn walls, while revelers stuff their faces with endless amounts of free pancakes.

The Pancakes & Booze Art Show is an LA based artist movement that started in 2009 and has quickly spread to over 20+ cities throughout North America.

They currently organize some of the largest pop-up underground art showcases in the country, with the best local emerging artists, musicians, and performers each city has to offer.

HOW CAN I DISPLAY MY ARTWORK AT THE EVENT?

Artists can submit their artwork by filling out our online submission form located below under “SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION”

If accepted, there is a £10 per piece HANGING FEE to display your work.

There are NO COMMISSIONS ON SALES. You take 100% of what you sell. The £10 per piece goes towards the production costs of the event (i.e. venue rental, staff, building materials, etc.). PAYMENT (cash only) is not due until the day of installation.

There is a strict 1×1 meters MAX SIZE LIMIT for each piece you’d like to exhibit. This is due to the size of the wall panels we use to display your work. Sorry, but no work over 1×1 (meter) in size will be able to fit on the walls.

DROP OFF and INSTALLATION TIMES & DATES will be confirmed. In most cases, installation is on the day of the event between 12-5p. Once confirmed we’ll inform you of the correct time.

There is no DEADLINE for submitting artwork. We take art until we fill all the wall space available. P&B is an extremely popular show, so we recommend reserving space as soon as possible.

CAN I DO SOME LIVE ART or BODY PAINTING DURING THE SHOW?

We will have a number of live artists creating work during the event. We open the floor up to anyone who wants to create a live art piece or do body painting for the show. Please just bring your supplies, along with a drop cloth, and do your thing. There is no need to sign up. All materials must be odour free.

HOW DO SALES WORK?

Most of the sales go through the artist. We highly recommend that everyone gets a credit card swiper for their phone. SquareUp and PayPal both are good options. We do not take credit cards so having your own system in place is key for making sales.

If you’re not around, we will make a sale in your absence and give you cash at the end of the night. As noted above, we do not take credit cards/checks/debit cards. If we act on your behalf during a transaction it will be cash only. We take NO COMMISSION ON SALES and will give you 100% of the cash sale at the end of the event.

After the transaction is made the buyer is allowed to take the work home with them on the spot. It is wise for you to have an extra piece on hand because you’re welcome to hang a replacement piece of equal or lesser size in the place of your sold piece. There is no extra fee for this.

You’re welcome to bring a small bin/tote/bag/etc to sell prints out of. Sorry, but we do not allow artists to set up tables to sell prints from.

FinDac, Mr Zero, Fat Heat and more & The Duke of Lancaster

The Duke of Lancaster, a decommissioned and abandoned cruise liner shipwrecked docked off the North Wales Coastline in Wales has become the home to a range of urban artwork murals.

Here are the latest pieces that came up : Mr Zero and Fatheat are part of Street Art Crew and Colored Effects Crew, a Hungarian Street Art Crew.

They have made the trip to North Wales from their native Hungary, to leave their own message about corruption on the 1950s cruise liner, with their works which are titled ‘The Prophets of Profit’.

This has been split into two separate portraits which are positioned either side of Bristolian Artist Bungle’s ‘Face of Authority’ piece.

Mr Zero has created a 12 x 7m pig character. Notably he has included the council’s own logo on the pig’s hat and incorporated provocative wording: ‘Greed’, ‘Power’ and ‘Corruption’ in the character. This message is further reinforced by his partner, Fatheat’s, 12 x 9m mural, which depicts a monster character.

Mr ZERO

This grotesquely includes human faces buried within the character and money surrounding it. Fatheat comments: “The faces represent the people affected by the Prophet’s corruption and how they have been swallowed up and used against their will.”

In direct contrast to these characters and the other artworks on the ship, Irish artist Fin DAC has created a beautiful image, depicting a Geisha Character. Titled ‘Mauricamai’, this painting is tucked away around the hull side of the ship.

It has been purposefully positioned so it can’t be seen from the coastal path – it can only be seen if the ship’s dock is opened to the public.

The ship is now home to 8 pieces of artwork, with artists travelling from all over Europe to leave their mark on this historic vessel.

Animated 3D gifs by Nick Thomm

Last Thursday night, Nick Thomm’s latests solo exhibition, Tropic Glows, opened.

Thomm took over the entire two-story space, transforming the basement into a fully immersive screening room, in which he housed his intricate 3D video works, while upstairs played host to both the crowds and a combination of Thomm’s mixed media works on fluro Plexiglass, holographic skate decks and neon pieces.

We included below 3 animated GIF works by the artist. We like them very much. Do you?

Leak street tunnel: a giant canvas for street artists

One of the if not the only and definitely most known authorised graffiti area in London is living up to the expectations. Artist, loads of them showed love here and keep doing so like the only guy I met that morning who was dropping up what looked like a piece that is worth coming back very soon to check out.

La Pandilla art : morphology

We have come across La Pandilla art and have liked very much the uniqueness of it. The recurrent theme it’d seem is the animal morphology: different species of animals are blended together creating totally unique specimens.

Definitely odd at first, this approach appears powerful and give the viewer plenty to think of what and why we look the way we are. You will find a few examples of their work below.

Da Mental Vaporz at SCOPE fair in Miami

Tuesday the 1st of December saw the opening of the much anticipated SCOPE, the international fair for contemporary art in Miami, Florida right on sunny South Beach.

SCOPE celebrates its 15th anniversary edition with 120 international exhibitors from 22 countries and 57 cities. MYA makes its debut appearance at the fair with an exhibition of pure French talent from our 400 sq. foot stand, located at #B21.

The exhibition features new paintings from Da Mental Vaporz artists BOM.K, BRUSK, BLO, JAW, KAN and collaborative works that include SOWAT, LEK, DRAN and GRIS1.

DMV was first formed in 1999 in the Parisian suburbs and over a 15 year period, the collective grew to its present day form: a surprising combination of styles, individualities and creativities which still manages to maintain a creative unity. Celebrated for their huge murals representing childlike characters, monsters and dislocated dolls, the collective combine the perfect marriage of cynicism and innocence.

SPQR at Pure Evil: Monochromatic shades

Another exhibition by Signal gallery which I had penciled in as soon as I’d heard about it. The artist, SPQR, has been on the circuit for quite a while now and is a prolific stenciller, so I was not surprised to find, hung up on the walls of Signal gallery, technically very good, quality stencils.

For his first solo show in the UK, SPQR looks at how art can be used to express your disagreement about things surrounding you: society, media, economy, etc. At first sight, and maybe for the non-expert in street art, you may think that what you are looking at is â€™some Banksyâ€™, eg. (see pictures below) the reference to a chain of supermarkets and making fun of the police etc, are a parallel with Banksyâ€™s sense of humour.

But SPQRâ€™s stuff is as good as Bansky no doubt, even better perhaps and not just because of his unwillingness to cash in on the hype and fame like other street art artists. But based on what I saw in this show, and in particular the piece in the shop window of the gallery, thumbs up for SPQR

Go on SPQR, a bit of fame and hype you probably deserve won’t hurt, you would just be selling some art, some good street art, which everyone needs in their life!

What would you say: SPQR better than Banksky?

Dale Grimshaw’s Pride & Prejudice new show at WellHung gallery

Dale Grimshaw‘s Pride & Prejudice new show at WellHung gallery was one of these shows you do not want to miss.

As soon as we got the email about it, an entry in the calendar was penciled to attend the Private View.

We had already been to some of Dale Grimshaw’s shows as well as seen a few murals throughout London so we could not wait to see what this new works will be all about.

As you step in the gallery, they are all looking at you, even stare at you. “They” are the indigenous people, mostly from Papua New Guinea, Dale Grimshaw, quite recently, has become involved with the political struggle to free West Papua from Indonesian occupation which he thinks aren’t covered enough in the medias.

More recently, Dale has become involved with the political struggle to free West Papua from Indonesian occupation. This bitter and hard fought struggle is rarely reported in the West and through his work, Dale has been supporting Benny Wenda, the campaigns leader and long term champion Peter Tatchell, in raising awareness in the UK.

The activist aspect of the new set of artworks obviously means a bunch of political messages and symbolic can be observed throughout but what we really also appreciate – beyond the apparent technical painting skills- it is the juxtaposition of two cultures, the Western society – we are convinced that it is Shoreditch you can see in the background of the piece just above) and the Papua New Guimes where the indigenous depicted in Dale Grimshaw’s set of works.

It was a delight to see again Dale Grimshaw’s mastery in the flesh. We are glad to see him engaged him for a cause and can definitely tell that by doing so, his style has become less dark than his last show – “Moreish” at Signal gallery we attended. What you will also find out by reading our review of that show, is that the technic does not seem to have evolved as much.

A must see-show. Runs until the 13/05/2017.
