Art-o-mat – vending machines selling art

The concept is pretty simple – Art-o-mat machines sell small works of art from retired and converted cigarette vending machines. But each dispenser is also to my view a stunnig work of art.

The recurrent style of these machines is often retro and many artists have got involved a=ver the years and the span of art available would please any art enthusiasts. They are spread mainly across Americas so if you are not around, get yourself over on the website and won yours today and if you are an artist, submit your art for the Art-o-mat machines!

Stencil republic, be a street artist

If the thought of having to go out there at night, hood on and a few cans in the pockets seems to you just not doable, the new Stencil Republic book, by London-based creative studio Ollystudio’s Oliver Walker and published by Laurence King, may be your alternative.

Pick one of the 20 stencils printed onto perforated card which have been created by international street artists such as Artiste Ouvrier, BS.AS.STNCL, Chris Stain, Dan Innes, Orticanoodles, Ozi, Run Don’t Walk and Stencil King, who has penned the book’s introduction.

Hours of fun and feeling of being a street artist, uh within the safe walls of your living room or bedroom, whatver this is a great toy.

One of the street art pieces you will be able to drop is Orticanoodles skull pictured below so what are you waiting for?

Here is what street artist AIKO has to day about the whole thing, ‘This is something you cannot learn at school. It doesn’t matter whether it is commissioned or unauthorised, painting in the dirty alley, on postal stickers, canvases, store signs, outdoor murals, you have to feel it, jump in, don’t stop and…have fun.’

The 500 festival comes to Village Underground

The 500 Festival, a new art and music festival is coming to Shoreditch this October and promised to entertain you all day and night and showcase of some of the most talked about DJ talent on the festival scene and an array of artistic gems.

Originally from Devon and normally happening outdoors, the festival invites itself in the heart of London and will take over Village Underground from midday till late on the 06th October 2012.

The art line up will include Mikel Kruminswill, the up and coming Scottish designer who had worked for the last 5 years or so as a designer in the creative industry and who will be exhibiting a project specifically for The 500.

Another artist that will probably worth seeing is Raoul Simpson, a self taught lighting / video artist who is as passionate about art as he is technology. Raoul’s works includes lighting designs within the entertainment industry as well as interactive public art installations

Holly Foskett-Barneswill on the other hand will certainly impress us with her rice sculptures made of 500 grains of rice while Nicholas Harvey installation and three dimensional sculptural work and especially his glass sculptures should wake our senses.

On the music level, Grammy nominated (The Garden) Zero 7will be headlining The 500 with a DJset. The Zero 7 gents are well known for their work with artists such as Sia, José González, Mozez and Sophie Barker.

The Festival is an all day midday-02.00am event promoting artists, new music and some famous names.

Artcrank – your bike is art

There is still time to go and see Artcrank “A poster party for bike people” in Hoxton where cycling is broken down into art under the form of posters. Yes you heard me you hipsters, this is the place YOU HAVE to be so hurry and enjoy illustrations from international artists such as Dark Star Brewing, Pista Collective, Lezyne and Otesha Project UK to feature bike-inspired poster art by UK artists.

Ye Hongxing "The Modern Utopia" at Scream

Beijing based artist Ye Hongxing is having her the first UK exhibition at Scream on Eastcastle street, London and the interest seems to be great and not only for this artist but for the entire Chinese contemporary art since the country has turned to capitalism.

Hongxing new works will be an answer to this profound social system change that has gone with that change. What jumps straight at you you when looking at her works is the explosion of colours and the somewhat chaos of the composition. One will see in this body of works a mirror of what China’s expansion has been – fast paced, anarchic and incoherent. The artist looks at questioning what it has cost China and its people and put forward the utopian vision that governing people may sometimes have.

On a more pratical aspect, the artist’s technique is remarkable and definitely creative. Hongxing woud use canvases and elaborate complex collages made of stickers and what we could called popular imagery collected for different medias since she was a kid. This clever assemblage often results to an eruption of colours and intricated compositions.

For those interested to know where the title of the exhibiiton comes from, it actually references the 1905 novel ‘A Modern Utopia’ by H.G Wells and is suggestive of the artist’s investigation into society and modern life.
