Central St Giles – urbanism at its best
I did not expect to walk through what, actually, turned out to be a truly enjoyable experience. I am talking here about the new urban development named Central Saint Giles, comfortably wedged between Bloomsbury and Soho in London.
I suspect the sunny weather that day helped here, but I was truly amazed by the imposing and colorful buildings that make up this very modern workplace, which includes office space, shops, restaurants, cafes, apartments and an outdoor public piazza. Bright green, yellow and orange are the colours used for the huge facades, which clearly make them stand out amidst the surrounding urban buildings.
While enjoying a walk on the spacious and bright piazza, I was happily surprised to encounter a couple of sculptures, one of which is by the artist Steven Gontarski; a five-meter-tall piece, adding another layer of colour to the landscape.
Urbanism like this can be beautiful, by either inspiring the architect (Renzo Piano) or being integrated into it.

Adam Neate at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms
Last time we went to see an Adam Neate’s show, precisely at the same venue, we were happily surprised by the freshness of Adam Neate’s three dimensional works.
I hadn’t seen such work, such technique before – 3D in paintings using Perspex being such a modern medium. The sober atmosphere, high ceilings and spot on lighting at Elms Lesters painting rooms enhance Adam Neate’s art which seems to gravitate around you.

Video painting at Cordy house, London
Video installation by the creative Brooklyn duo Sweatshoppe. The principle is simple: a LED roller paints video onto a wall. The effect is guaranteed.
Thanks to the programming language called Max/MSP, Blake Shaw wrote a software that makes possible the projection of video visible when it comes in contact with the LED lights on the roller.
The video below is Sweatshoppe at it on top of Cordy House, Shoredith, London towards the end of last year.

'Air I breathe' – the new Gazelli Art House show
I have been looking forward to this new exhibition by the guys at Gazelli Art House, not just because of the promising line-up of artists but also about the venue this show is held at – Rochelle school. This is one of those venues any artist would love to have at disposal for shows – it is on two floors, airy, high ceilings, great light, several rooms. It just works for art shows and shall leave up to the expectations for this show which is installation based sculpture focused.
‘Air I breathe’ is the 4th show of a series of 5 exploring the classical elements, and in particular the contradictory nature of air.
Mila Askarova, curator of this show and founder of Gazelli Art House has gathered top talents for this show and John Wynne’s sound installation(whose speaker installation in Saatchi’s ‘Newspeak’ exhibition was critically acclaimed) will resonate throughout the venue . Hyper-real sculptures of people from the duo Little Whitehead (AKA Craig Little and Blake Whitehead) will also provoke reactions
Add to this, Kate Terry‘s work of dramatic, tense, thread installations and Yoonjin Jung‘s site-specific installations marrying oriental painting with a desire to explore the idea of ‘Seeing the Unseen’ and you know you will be up for a fine evening of must-seen art.
