Hand Joy group show at C4RD: eroticism in Islington

Picture-010

I had never heard about the C4RD (Centre for Recent Drawing) before and was happily surprised to find out that Hand Joy, a group show of contemporary artists was actually happening a throw stone away from where I live in Highbury & Islington – art on your doorstep that is.

I had heard quite a bit about it before hand through Corinna Spencer (follow Corinna @Corr_ on Twitter), one of the featured artist and was then keen to go and see what the exploration of eroticism, desire, possession, longing and the body – theme of this artists gathering, had produced.

The production is one of those were everything is tried, anything is used: ‘Brown Baby’ by Thom Ravhnolt made of latex rubber, simple but superb pencil on paper drawings by Corinna Spencer or Takayuki Hara or even a papercut piece by Carlos Franklin. Abstract or realistic, bodies, shapes or evocations illustrate what Paul Kindersley, the curator of this show was after: artistic interpretation of feelings in each of us.

Go and show your support to a bunch of fine contemporary artists.

Hand of Joy runs until the exhibition the 28th May 2010.
