Last week ART-PIE went to see Arth Daniel’s first solo show – ‘Itsa Bitsa, Face and Bone’ at Stolen Space and was impressed and excited by Arth’s new works and his completely new and fresh approach to portraiture.
ART-PIE had the chance to get Arth to answer a few questions about his work and his current show.
When I got into Stolen Space, I was immediately caught by the sense of freshness in Arth Daniel’s execution of the medium of oil paint – the large canvases stood right there on the walls, the colors were anything but attractive, the illustrations, some of you do not see very often.
A man runs. He falls down. He struggles back onto his feet and he runs some more. It’s a simple narrative. Even without much detail, you can understand what’s going on. Pause the video, though, and the scene isn’t nearly as clear. Movement makes up for the lack of other visual information. Your brain can read and understand a video at much lower resolution than it would need to make equal sense of a still frame.
Ha ha ha… That was bound to happen, wasn’t it? Caught out because of twittering too much or the wrong thing!
Jason Willians aka REVOK (US graffiti artist) got caught out in Australia (as he was leaving the country) after twittering where he would drop his next graffiti pieces as well as after posting actual pictures of his graffitis freshly sprayed on walls of Melbourne.
