A document filming and following the entire Burning Candy crew is being shot right now. Their Street Art is a familiar visual encounter on the walls of London and especially in East London and on Brick Lane.
A few days ago, I met the Paul Sakoilsky, the curator for Object-Culture, read the post here, the first of four pop up shows happening back to back throughout April and May 2010. Paul kindly sent the pictures below of the opening night (photos credits: Nick Ensing). This first show runs until the 25th April 2010.
You could not say no to an exhibition where you would get to see pieces from artists such as Andy Warhol and Ed Ruscha without having to hop between venues across town, well you do not have to do that anymore – CRASH: homage to JG Ballard is that exhibition. Go now.
Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, big names on the menu as well as a good bunch of younger artists Glenn Brown or Jenny Saville. You look at the leaflet handed over to you earlier by the very friendly staff at Gagosian and you just do not know where to start.
A man runs. He falls down. He struggles back onto his feet and he runs some more. It’s a simple narrative. Even without much detail, you can understand what’s going on. Pause the video, though, and the scene isn’t nearly as clear. Movement makes up for the lack of other visual information. Your brain can read and understand a video at much lower resolution than it would need to make equal sense of a still frame.
