Diana Taylor – Alpha Beta, at Room

After-All, DIANA TAYLOR

Diana Taylor’s work, consisting of painting and drawing that will invade the gallery at every level from floor to ceiling operating between and making connections with paintings on birch ply panel.

The works, which combine figuration with a varied pictorial language, at times appear to be constructed of torn pieces from comics, patterned papers and other printed ephemera, but are actually painted. This isn’t collage in the traditional sense but the surface is equally worked with a range of different paints and varnishes. She uses screen print directly, wood block prints, cross-stitch-patterns, and landscapes from colouring books onto the birch ply or mdf surface.

Patches of missing information refer to gaps in the memory or create strategies to subvert the received comprehension of things. Diagrams and classifications appear amongst floating images with frames disrupting the pictorial plane. Images seemingly fall through space… as if they pass or fall through consciousness.

The opening night is on the 13th January 2011
