Kicks & canvas: lace’em up

Last time I went to see an exhibition with this sort of line-up, the Lock Up exhibition for those who would like to read about it, the stuff I saw was pretty good and would actually most probably please any one into stencils, spray paint or hip hop so I was pretty eager to get down to Zero Cool Gallery and check out that new concept: confronting traditional graffiti writers and artists with a new canvas, and that’s a pair of pristine all-white Nike kicks. Every artist will be hand painting and customizing a pair of kicks and teaming it up with a 50x50cm piece.

Sounds fresh, doesn’t it?

Down to Redchurch street and a small crowd has already gathered inside and outside so hop I went in and started snapping away….

Talking to other people about the concept, we all love it but like Jim at World Graffiti, we could not see ourselves buy any of these kicks even less wearing them. But are they meant to be worn? Probably not and it does not matter as the whole idea here from the guys at SoleHeaven was to bring together Kicks & Art – job done.

You can go and see those kicks and related pieces until the 18th April

Featured artist: Goldie | INSA | Inkie | ATG | Mr Jago | Disco Teck | Toaster | Dickchicken | Trans 1 | Nes | Jon Lawrence | Anthony Lister | Dan Baldwin | Jon Burgerman | Copyright | Ben Frost | Meggs | Zoot | Gemma Compton | Benedict Radcliffe | Numskull

PS: Please make sure to check with the gallery whether it is open before you go because a bunch of idiots found amusing to ruin the preview night yesterday by throwing bottles and bricks at the front window of the venue as well as people
