Noise Intercepted, global art project about noise

Noise. Noises. They are everywhere these days and unique in their own ways but can they be assimilated to art too?

Labspace Studio ( (a creative agency & art house in Toronto, Canada), the people behind Noise Intercepted, a global art project about noise part of the Noise Project, certainly think so and have just launched their project today. and guess what, we are taking part and are excited about it. But what is it exactly?

Noise Intercepted is a series of ten experience-activated noise challenges that prompt participants to listen, observe and interact with their urban soundscape in new and unlikely ways.

The project brings together over 200 collaborators from 28 countries around the globe — artists, sound ecologists, designers, writers, mothers, fathers, educators, filmmakers, administrators, technicians, scientists, students, programmers, health practitioners, and the list goes on.

Over the course of four months (March – June 2013), participants will be sent (via text msg & email) a series of ten noise challenges and creative prompts.

They have exactly 1-week to respond to each challenge and share their findings here with you.

BOILER ROOM – MAKE SESSION 007

I could not sound more hipster than saying – “I am going to the latest instalment of the Boiler Room Make Sessions, the world’s leading underground music show, where there will be some Red Stripe to drink at will. The whole thing is Hackney and 14 Bike Co will build five bespoke Red Stripe inspired fixed-gear bikes – live.”

I have not made this up. It is happening tomorrow and I am going to such a thing. I am actually looking forward to it as I have heard from Boiler Room and it has rather been a positive feedback.

Added to the bike sort of live workshops, the tunes should be banging.DJs Steve Braiden, XXXY, Midland and Paul Woolford are there for that and will play the decks back to back.

We will report back on here after the event but if you cannot wait that long, why don’t you logon tomorrow from 7 and check out the live streaming of the event- address below.

Make Session 007 is invite only, but can be viewed at www.boilerroom.tv/live

The Space Between The Stars at Scream

The Space Between The Stars
Show flyer (click to enlarge)

The Space Between The Stars‘ opens this Friday at Scream. Expect London and international artists and the recurrent yet infinite “light” as a medium in art. Many artists in the past experimented with it, such as Robert Irwin for example, and as the artists in this show, gave an immersive experience for the viewer.

This show promises a variety of approaches in trying to break down light.

Korean-born US based artist Bohyun Yoon gives us an installation of silicon rubber figures suspended like puppets from a steel bar with a spotlight. Caroline Jane Harris works with paper and will present us with an epic landscape titled Sylvan Landscape over two metres in width. Chris Bracey, a veteran in working with neon and lights and who has worked for big names or productions such as Vivienne Westwood or the Batman films will impress. James Hopkins’ will use sculptures to create illusions.  Regine Schumann also works with sculptures but made of acrylic glass and a special phosphorescent pigment that allow the works to glow from within.

The collaboration between Hsiao-chi Tsai (Taiwan) & Kimiya Yoshikawa (Japan), masters in Mixed-media textiles and Sculpture respectively, their light sculptures and installations might steal the show. Shane McAdams ‘ landscape made with a ball-point pen, oil and resin has also to be something to look for. Last but not least Sylvia Hommert experiments with a range of mediums including pigment, beeswax, holographic paper and glitter on birch panels to capture this ephemeral and iridescent quality.

Artists featured; Bohyun Yoon (Korea), Caroline Jane Harris (UK), Chris Bracey (UK), James Hopkins (UK), Regine Schumann (Germany), Tsai & Yoshikawa (Japan & Taiwan), Shane McAdams (USA) and Sylvia Hommert (USA)
