Girls, glasses and tattoos

Some people like art for its meaning or the messages that it conveys but others will appreciate the art for its beauty, its aesthetic. I will not dive into what is beauty or aesthetic in art but I would rather illustrate one form of beauty – tattoos, the art of tattoos. And what about tattoos on girls wearing glasses? I know.

Hoping these trigger emotions in relation to the sense of beauty you have got in mind.

Terrestrial Series by Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada

Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada is a Cuban American contemporary artist. He as bee around since the late 90´s he has been replacing the faces of cultural icons chosen by advertisers with the faces of anonymous people to question the controls imposed on public space, the role models designated and the type of events that are guarded by the collective memory.

His spectacular interventions are created for the sake of bringing awareness to relevant social issues. His large scale time base works avoid negative impact on the environment, challenge the conformity in contemporary art and allow for a reflection that goes beyond the completion of the piece to focus in its concept, process, and the metaphor that comes forth because of the material chosen.

Here below is ine if his works – an 11 Hectare portrait in Belfast, Northern Ireland!

Jason deCaires submerged sculptures

Art can do good, Art does good. We all know that.

How about underwater sculptures that provide places for marine species to live and thrive? This is what Jason deCaires Taylor‘s sculpture work is all about. One will call the artist “eco-sculptor”. Round of applause for the artist.

And we are not talking about a few sculptures spread at random on the sea bed, no but instead we are looking at complex, vast and thought through installations 100% environmental friendly and favorising the growth of marine life

The Curious Art-Pie Show

We had a great time and exhibited awesome works from drawing to sculpture in the hope to find emerging talents. We were very pleased with what we got in the end.

The Curious Art-Pie show | Art-PieThis show was generously sponsored by Curious Duke Gallery and consisted of an online public voting contest: anyone could submit one artwork ranging from paintings to sculpture.

We also asked a panel of judges that consisted of well known and established artists – Dan Baldwin, Pam Glew, Dave White and Andrea Tyrimos, and we got out 22 artists to exhibit their work last February 2014.

The response was overwhelming and the quality of the submissions was remarkable. Even better, a massive crowd turned up at the opening making this show a real success for us Art-Pie as the curator and organiser to Eleni, the owner of the Curious Duke Gallery who signed up a couple of promising artists.

Have a look at the Facebook photo album of the opening as well as the Twitter thread for #capshow14
