Art4Peace Auction at The Ivy Club
Around 20 acclaimed urban and street artists from around the world exhibited their artwork in support of the peacebuilding charity International Alert’s #ART4PEACE campaign, at The Old Truman Brewery in London from 4-20 September 2015.
The art exhibition and sale, titled #ART4PEACE: Peace from the street up!, featured work inspired by the theme of ‘peace in our cities’. The artists, some of whom come from conflict-affected regions, refelcted on opportunities for peaceful change in an increasingly urbanised world. Graffiti, reclaimed police shields and road signs, and even rolling pins, all featured in this unique show in the run up to UN International Peace Day on the 21st of September.

An online preview auction opened to bidders worldwide on the 21st of September (UN International Peace Day), and the campaign will conclude with a public auction on Friday 2 October at The Club at The Ivy, in London’s West End – get your tickets on eventbrite.
All proceeds are in aid of International Alert and its vital peacebuilding work in more than 25 countries around the world.

Transcend, a show by Tom French at Lawrence Alkin gallery
Following his 2014 sell out show, Tom French returns to Lawrence Alkin Gallery with his latest body of work, Transcend. Evolving from French’s Duality series, the exhibition continues to incorporate figurative elements and the artists’ signature use of illusion, while embracing abstraction more than previous works.
About the artist and this show
In the slant towards abstraction, French allows for his work to be interpreted on multiple levels. He commented: “Abstraction is less obvious, so the images are open to a wider range of meanings and interpretations. It’s intended to offer the viewer a more personal experience – different people will see different things and read the images in their own ways.”
French is fascinated with exploring the relationship between the conscious and subconscious and this is communicated through his paintings. The figurative elements of his work represent the conscious, with characters absorbed in their own actions. The abstracted portraits in which they sit representing the subconscious, the instinctual yet hidden human drives that shape and determine the blissfully unaware subjects and make up the bigger picture.
“These latest paintings are formed through a more abstract, improvised and free flowing approach. For this series I worked straight onto canvas with only a very loose idea of the outcome. This allowed the images to naturally evolve, while I intuitively worked out placement and composition as they progressed.”– Tom French 2016

Narcelio grud take on The Mara Hope in Brazil
We always get impressed by large scale works and let’s face it, while Usain Bolt keeps running faster and faster than anyone else, street artists keep taking on bigger and bigger projects.
Narcelio Grud, a street artist from Brazil just did that. When we saw what he did, we immediately though about what a bunch of other street artists such as FinDac, Mr Zero and Fat Heat did to the Duke of Lancaster back in 2013.
What makes Narcelio’s work different and interesting is his abstract approach to this marvellous and colourful piece of art.
For those who are lucky enough to live in Brazil, this piece is using the stranded ship Mara Hope located on Iracema Beach alongside the Brazilian city of Fortaleza.
We are thrilled to relay Narcelio’s work on the site as we know he has been following us for a while.
The facts
- 300 liters of water-based paint were needed
- The Mara Hope wreckage, a former cargo ship has been stranded for over 30 years

Woozy at the outsiders
The Outsiders is proud to present I Dont Care About My Face, the first UK solo exhibition by the artist Woozy. Downstairs in The Dungeon, Woozy will exhibit a colourful showcase of his most recent canvases, works on metal and paper.
Originating from Athens Greece, Woozy is renowned for his large-scale murals and outdoor wall paintings that have graced the international urban landscape. Collaborating with a wide network of street artists most notably Os Gemeos, he has travelled his utopian vision across Europe into China and down to Brazil. Whilst maintaining his passion for painting the outdoors, Woozy has now after 20 years turned his focus inside to brightening gallery walls.
Woozys latest series of work retains his signature minimal, yet colorful forms interweaving
an array of diverse materials, styles and techniques. Transcending the limitations of a specific setting or known face, the characters in his paintings are those who journey through space and time embracing a sense of universal beauty found in the abstract.
Texture, light and colour are the Woozys means for the collective expression of freedom.
From the artist on the subject of his forthcoming show: There is a moment, an instant, an incident, a point of contact where the mind pauses. Painting is an action and the action of a painter is a scream. Society has no face. Its the echo of voices, the scent of life. Colors are the expression of movements in the light. When one looks behind his shoulder, everything will fade away, flames will burn out and the bombs will take away the veil from the eyes of those who have lost their freedom.

Blu and Ericailcane collaboration in Bologna
Artists Blu and Ericailcane joined forces in Bologna and have produced a rather mighty mural in Bologna, Italy. Ericailcane got in charge of the animals while Blu put up the cage and other elements.
