James George or how to use Kinect (Xbox)
Microsoft must have amazed quite a few of us with their latest innovation, I want to talke here about Kinect by like for all genius products, there is a sleepy hacker waiting to exploit and excel in using such products.
James George had the idea to modify the Kinect accessory and with the help of a HD SLR, he presents us with these amazing shots below taken across the NYC subway.
For the techies, James is using the depth image in a custom open framework application.

Drones in Deptford coming soon
We all like going to the movies, don’t we? But how about going to the movies and get a total immersion in it, how about an invasion by spaceships and robots whilst watching the 1972 eco-themed sci-fi classic Silent Running?
Immersive cinema company The Vanishing Point is throwing another mighty sounding event in association with nationwide film season Scala Beyond. The venue is the Utrophia Gallery in Deptford – a space which, conveniently, is already well equipped with rooftop machinery, and the feel of a ‘run down old spaceship’, according to Paul Reed, The Vanishing Pointco-founder and creative director.

‘We don’t want to create a nostalgic reaction of the film but look at the themes, what was it getting at and how can we have some fun with that and keep people interested and excited.
The event will feature interaction with crew members from The Valley Forge space freighter, garden areas, a blast-off bar, food stalls and immersive installations inspired by the fiction of the film. We also hear that there will also be a retro video game installation.

Alex Meade’s 3D made into 2D street art
Meet Alexa Meade. He creates amazing series of living graffiti art but the twist is that he masters the ability of using actual people made to look like they belong in their 2D graffiti background.
No need to say that the level of careful painting and attention to detail is huge here but it works pretty awesomely to turns three dimensional figures into two dimensional figures. All participants are painted in black and white and cleverly get tangled in the explosive and coloured backgrounds and the illusion of they are part of the static art is achieved.

'Rejected' – Get your artwork in the spotlight withA-side B-side Gallery
Artists frequently get rejections from shows and competitions; rejection is part of what being an artist is all about. Often an exhibition will have a curatorial concept and the work just simply doesn’t fit the theme, in competitions the judges are subjective and essentially select what they like. Current trends in the art world might make your work more or less desirable not forgetting the provenance of the artist themselves…
The ‘Rejected’ exhibition will be held at A-side B-side Gallery during the first two weeks of May, we are looking for artists to submit one piece of work and a rejection letter or email they have received previously.
ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED
The idea of the exhibition is to celebrate rejection, a united force of artists getting together to valiantly display their work. Will an aesthetic cohesion emerge from the collection of work? How many pieces will be submitted? And how will we hang it?!
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Wednesday 25th May 5pm
