Dan Kitchener at Graffik gallery | Art-PieUK based artist, DANK aka Dan Kitchener’s second major solo show in London this year is opening at Graffik gallery on Thursday this week.

We hear that the artwork on display, cityscapes and landscapes but also the now iconic Tokyo neon style Geishas, are a delight so we are looking forward to going to the press launch tomorrow and talk to the artist about his new set of new works.

“Working across all mediums, scale plays an important part in his work – he has a fondness for epic street pieces, with his monstrous creations seen on walls ranging from 20ft to over 100 ft. Light and the effects of light are also another huge aspect of his work, using this technique to give life to a varied range of compositions.”

Busk Bleach Zadok at Pure Evil gallery

Last time I went to Pure Evil gallery I was blown away by the exhibit I saw from ROA (read post here) as well as the gallery itself and the way it was used: clever and original display of the artwork and above all fresh works from the artist himself on the walls – really like this approach where you feel the gallery is owned by the artist so once again, well done to Charles at Pure Evil.

EAGLE by Dave White – print release

One launch night not to miss, one print to get.

The artist, Dave White is on the rise and have been selected for the Northern Graduates show at the Royal College of Art, Liverpool-based. He is regarded by many as one of the most talented of the UK’s new generation of painters and when you see what he is done, you have to agree or at least positively nod.

The event is about the release of an exclusive limited edition print, hand finished in gold leaf, of his iconic Eagle work from his critically acclaimed Americana series.

I should have said enough for you to be gagging to come down to Artrepublic Soho on the 28th and fight for a copy of the print you can see below.

Bonhams' Urban art auction – beyond expectation

The art auction market has been around for years, certainly a lot more than street art has been but yet, this emerging form of art seems to be on everybody’s lips and wallet indeed.

Bonhams’ auction, which just happened, has definitely showed us that. The bidding was fierce, the desire to own pieces from street artists, a must. The total sale from this Urban Art Sale at Bonham’s New Bond Street reached 455,760 GBP, with almost half of the works selling above their high estimates.

Joram Roukes & Sean Madden at Signal gallery

I managed to get to see the current group show at Signal gallery and I am glad I did. The shows called Mixed doubles presents works from Dan Baldwin, John Squire, Andrew Mc Attee, Sean Madden and Joram Roukes.

While I am familiar with the first three artists mentioned, I did not know much about the two latter ones – Sean Madden and Joram Roukes and what a shame that is as these two have got very strong and powerful works on display.

Like Dan Baldwin, Joram Roukes does figurative paintings but unlike Baldwin’s works, Roukes’ color palette is lighter making the whole composition a lot less intense. But looking at what those paintings depict – series of layered figures, completely at random – you get for example what looks like a human body but with a bear’s head or a dog’s one, looks closer and you will notice the back stabbed with the back of an aircraft on fire; Joram Roukes’ paintings also have got an intensity in them.

You will have got it by now, Joram Roukes work will probably appear ridiculous to some but also and most probably like a joy for more people. Funny and intriguing could summarize what this is all about.

Sean Madden – bronze sculpture
I did not pay much attention to this artist when I first read about this show, I could blame on the gallery for actually not mentioning an awful lot about him but I should have made my own research so we call it a draw. We are looking here at sculptures work. Not a fan of these type of work, Sean Madden is certainly one of these artists that will make you like sculpture or at least take a closer look at it.

His sculptures for this show are tiny but yet so powerful. The display put together by Signal definitely does some good to emphasize the beauty of these sculptures. When you spot them, you cannot stop looking at them. What could be an angel is hanging above the other sculptures and give the whole installation a mystical dimension.
