Fellow crewmates Jasik, Poer and Inkfetish have done some magic on Leonard street and painted a large mural based on the cult kids TV show ‘Rainbow’.
“The Ugly American” by Saber at The Outsiders
“The Ugly America” show opening today at The Outsiders is the work of legendary graffiti artist Saber’. The artist spent 8 weeks immersed in the Outsiders Newcastle branch last autumn and created all the works on display in the gallery this time in London.
We stepped in and were hardly wowed by what we were seeing: a series of pale wooden pallets works. We quickly realised that they were all depicting “The Star-Spangled Banner”, understand the American flag.
But then we remembered that “The Ugly American” refers to a multi-million-copy best selling book and 1963 movie, in which Marlon Brando starred, and is all about telling about the dark side of the American foreign policy. I looked again at the pale stuff and could relate now. Off downstairs…
The mood was slightly happier down here and colours from Saber’s pieces smiling at me. The artist’s technique that consists of mixing aerosol art with oil and even charcoal pleased my little eyes.

A LATVIAN artist, who’s work can be found in a number of European locations, has been revealed as the person responsible for the two giant pirate murals that have recently appeared on an iconic landmark, on the North Wales Coastline.
The two pirate-like characters seemed to appear overnight, earlier this month, on the side of The Fun Ship, formally The Duke Of Lancaster, which has become a well-known landmark in Llanerch-y-Mor, near Mostyn. It has now been confirmed that they are the work of KIWIE, a street artist from Latvia.
The artwork appears to be orchestrated by a group calling themselves Dudug, who have set up a website reporting on the works. Shortly after the murals appeared on the 17th August, a You Tube video was posted on their site.
The video depicts the work being done illegally at night; however a new video has since been added to the website, revealing the original version to be a spoof. The intricate artworks did in fact take a number of days to complete, and was done under the watchful supervision of site security, which remains 24 x 7 at The Duke.
The painted characters, also known by the term KIWIES, are each 9 metres in height making them the biggest works ever created by the artist. They also include some key details about the Duke’s history in their design – with the year the ship was built (1956) on the blue pirate’s ear, and the year the ship was docked in Llanerch-y-Mor (10th Aug 1979) on its stomach.
Members of the Duke of Lancaster Appreciation Society (DOLAS) have been so far unable to shed any light on the appearance of the artwork but it appears none of them had any idea the cruise liner was going to be targeted by the street artist. It can also be confirmed that DOLAS and DUDUG operate completely separate from one another.

Turning dirty trucks into canvas with amazing art
we’ve all seen dirty trucks or cars, I mean covered with muds or dust and we probably did not think more of it.
Nikita Golubev, a Russian, sees these trucks and cars as a canvas and, with a set of brushes, will turn dirtiness into awesomeness.

Bruce French at Scream gallery
Scream is proud to present the third solo exhibition with fine artist Bruce French. “Absence of Light” is a sequel to his 2008 solo show and will feature his signature fine line drawings, translated into painting, sculpture and limited edition screen prints. The exhibition will be launched on 26 May with an exclusive performance piece at Scream, choreographed and performed by Vanessa Fenton of the Royal Ballet, and sung by Lynne Jackman of rock band St. Jude. Titled ‘And I always will’, this will be the first collaboration between the artist, dancer and chanteuse, and will be performed in ‘First Drafts’ on 26th April at the Royal Opera House.
With the new body of work, French embraces modern technologies, and although each image is drawn from life and inspired by the people and events he observes, he uses his iPhone and iPad to maintain the visual diaries that form the basis of his oeuvre. His observations are translated into faceless figurative drawings, emotionally charged yet androgynous and anonymous. Bruce begins by creating an image in layers on his iPad. By drawing directly onto the pad with his fingers he is able to experiment with line, form and colour, before printing on Perspex or translating the image to the more traditional medium of oil on canvas. Although Bruce’s paintings are essentially figurative, they possess a bold, linear aesthetic. He is passionate about using the latest technology as a tool for artistic purposes, extending to a sculpture created on the iPad and realized using the latest electroluminescent light technology. The images do not necessarily represent a specific individual, but act as an emotional journal of characters who cross his path from day to day. By stripping away distinguishing features, Bruce creates powerful linear images.

The Urban Iconic Show at Hoxton Arches
We missed this show unfortunately but we got a batch of photographs fro the show so we thought we should share them with you.
The show ran from the 5th till the 10th of September at 402 Hoxton Arches gallery. The artists involved were Otto Schade (OSCH), Mr. Cenz, Max Zorn, SF80, Tizer One, Zabou, Pegasus, James Bourbon, Tank Petrol, Cityzenkane and Pins.

The 500 festival comes to Village Underground
The 500 Festival, a new art and music festival is coming to Shoreditch this October and promised to entertain you all day and night and showcase of some of the most talked about DJ talent on the festival scene and an array of artistic gems.
Originally from Devon and normally happening outdoors, the festival invites itself in the heart of London and will take over Village Underground from midday till late on the 06th October 2012.
The art line up will include Mikel Kruminswill, the up and coming Scottish designer who had worked for the last 5 years or so as a designer in the creative industry and who will be exhibiting a project specifically for The 500.
Another artist that will probably worth seeing is Raoul Simpson, a self taught lighting / video artist who is as passionate about art as he is technology. Raoul’s works includes lighting designs within the entertainment industry as well as interactive public art installations
Holly Foskett-Barneswill on the other hand will certainly impress us with her rice sculptures made of 500 grains of rice while Nicholas Harvey installation and three dimensional sculptural work and especially his glass sculptures should wake our senses.
On the music level, Grammy nominated (The Garden) Zero 7will be headlining The 500 with a DJset. The Zero 7 gents are well known for their work with artists such as Sia, José González, Mozez and Sophie Barker.
The Festival is an all day midday-02.00am event promoting artists, new music and some famous names.

Hors Les Murs, part of the FIAC fair
The FIAC art fair has opened its doors to the public until the 27/10 and while loads is happening, a stroll around the Parisians parks i a must as a bung of artist have dropped some outdoors installation. This event is called Hors-Les-Murs
Make sure to head down to the Tuileries Gardens, Jardin des Plantes, National History Museum, and Place Vendôme, the Petit Palais, and the banks of the Seine River, situated on the left bank between the Pont de Solférino and the Pont des Invalides and you shoud get your dose of art
Highlights include an installation by Tadashi Kawamata on the iconic Vendôme Column in Place Vendôme, working in collaboration with the Comité Vendôme and its members, in particular a number of major jewelers that are based in the mythic square. The piece is entitled “Tree Huts at Place Vendôme, 2013.”
Shepard Fairey Sound & Vision show
Shepard Fairey’s Sound and Vision show has been the hot topic in town for the last few weeks. The artist and his crew has hit hard for this show since not only the Stolen Space gallery is hosting the show but another much bigger one a few yards away has also been necessary to give a roof to the impressive amount of pieces the artist has produced.
Since the Hope portrait of Obama back in 2008, Shepard Fairey and his brand OBEY has become something people recognize and like. You see a Shepard Fairey and you know it is one – the typography, colors and subject will give it away. OBEY is a brand here to stay.
