Chris Brown and his monsters

Yep, as loads of people these days, Chris Brown seemed to have also embraced street art and decided to paint what looks like monsters on his very expensive Beverly Hills mansion walls.

No exception here though, Chris Brown or not, multimillionaire singer or not, street art isn’t welcome. It scares the children, it would appear. The singer has been ordered to repaint the walls otherwise it will have to pay a fine, a £250 fine. This is probably what he earns per minute.

Scares the children? Really? Have you looked at them, they are adorable. Yes, I must admit, I kind of like them. I never thought I would ever approve anything Chris Brown did.

Let’s move on.

INSA collaboration with Pepsi Max

We tend not to plug any commercial stuff on this site but we are happy to do this time since the end result is pretty kick-ass.

About

Pepsi MAX asked people to tell them about the Pepsi Max Cherry and then got artist INSA involved in order to bring to life their words and opinions – we will focus here on the animated GIF outcome and not on the taste of that drink 🙂

British musician Charli XCX made the soundtrack for this animation

How they produced the video below?

A 360 degree camera rig was built around the installation using 90 cameras, allowing every angle of the art to be captured simultaneously.

Each artwork was painted twenty four times over, layer upon layer, so they would animate when put together using stop motion.

Millions of people have watched the video now. That is part of what speaks to youths about such collaborations, INSA tells Marketing: “The young people that are Pepsi’s audience are so used to engaging with things so flippantly and getting instantaneously satisfaction, but knowing that that instant took a whole load of time and effort to make gives that human element within the digital stuff.”

This form or art is called “Gif-iti”, Gif- what sorry?

In this other video below, INSA tells us about how what it’s called GIF graffiti (“Gif-iti”) came about and shows us the “behind the scenes” of another project he was involved with involving a satellite from space.

If you cannot be bothered to watch the video, here is how “Gif-iti” is created – GIF-ITI is made via a laborious physical process involving numerous layers of painting and meticulous planning.

Starting where most artwork ends, GIF-ITI entails photographing each layer the artist paints by hand. These images are then uploaded and overlaid to create the final piece, a looping GIF file which comes to live when released to global audiences online.

Who is Fidel Castro?

Fidel Castro | Art-PieFidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (August 13, 1926 – November 25, 2016) was a Cuban politician and revolutionary who governed the Republic of Cuba for 47 years as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2006 (de jure until 2008).

Politically a Marxist–Leninist and Cuban nationalist, he also served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1961 until 2011. Elissa Franceschi EP Launch at Nothing Hill Arts Club

Elissa Franceschi | Art-PieIntroducing Elissa Franceschi, a prolific songwriter with a distinctive powerhouse vocal who has built a reputation based on organic, grass roots promotion and haunting live performances. Having previously performed in some of the UK’s most famous venues (Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, Astoria and Wembley Arena – supporting Paramore and You Me At Six), Elissa spent the majority of 2012 performing all over the UK with her live band, and being teamed up with the country’s top songwriting production houses (of Jessie J & Ellie Goulding fame) to co-write for other artists.

The release of ‘Devoid of Rue’ on 24th June 2013, the follow-up EP to Elissa’s three independent album releases ‘Touch’, ‘I Hold My Breath’, and ‘Into The Light’. Recorded and mixed by Matt O’Grady (You Me At Six, Don Broco, Deaf Havana), ‘Devoid Of Rue’ was funded without label support but instead through a successful fan-funded Pledge Music campaign, where Elissa gave fans exclusive access to bonus tracks and videos, opportunities for one-of-a-kind experiences, along with live updates which gave fans a unique interactive look at the process of making the EP. The embedded stream can be found here;

The record is an evolution of songwriting for Elissa, giving new listeners a taste of previous albums in the beautiful piano-and-vocal-only track ‘Oceans’, and existing fans something new in the form of the rockier ‘Outside My Body’. With additions of atmospheric ‘Chasing Something’, epic ‘Dust’, and the anthemic brand new single ‘All These Days’ – this EP really showcases the exciting and emerging talent Elissa Franceschi has become.

Elissa saw even greater success in 2012 as the first artist hand-picked to perform at the London 2012 Olympics as part of the Emerging Icons search for the UK’s best unsigned talent, and saw her track ‘Rainbow On Fire’climb Number 14 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart through word of mouth alone. Now, 2013 has seen Elissa scale new heights with recent single ‘Salt’ being voted as ‘Track Of The Week’ on the Radio 1 Review Show with Edith Bowman, beating global superstar artists Beyoncé, will.i.am, Justin Bieber and 30 Seconds To Mars; while also hitting Number 1 on the National Student Radio Charts.

Fairies Wires sculpture by Robin Wight

Robin Wight & his fairies wires sculptures | Art-PieSculpture is a fantastic form of art and here, at Art-Pie, our interest is growing every day.

Especially when you see what a bit of imagination and craftsmanship can do.

Meet Robin Wight, artist based in Staffordshire (England) who has taken wires sculptures to the next level.

Fairies at the bottom of the garden

Here is what he says about how his interest for wires fairies sculptures came about. You will indeed notice that the artist has a keen interest in depicting fantasy characters, like fairies, in his sculpture work.

“In 1920 two little girls photographed fairies at the bottom of their garden and created a news sensation. As we know, the photographs were fake, but the story captured the imagination of people who wanted to believe.

A couple of years ago, while trying out my new camera, I took the picture (right) in the woods at the bottom of my garden. It was only later when looking at the results that I spotted the figure in the tree (above). Its obviously a trick of the light coming through the trees. What else could it be?

Whatever it is, it captured my imagination and inspired me to use the idea in my sculpture.”

Just a hobby for now

We understand that Robin Wight only started making Fairies sculptures recently and while it is still a hobby, he hopes to make a living out of it. We do not see why people would not pay for the artists’s creations as they will enhance any garden or parks.

“I only started wire sculptures about a year ago. I’ve been refining the quality and technique and I’m now happy to start doing commission work (before my garden turns into a theme park). Its currently a hobby which I’d like to make a career, but let’s see how much interest there is first. Every fairy is a handmade sculpture uniquely crafted to your desired pose and installation requirements.”
