We strolled through the London Art Fair for the fourth consecutive year and as always stumbled upon remarkable artworks from ever so talented artists.
In this series, we will tell you why we liked a particular piece from these artists as well as posting more works. We hope you will also enjoy it as we did.

We stumbled upon the piece called “Ophelia Bathing” – oil on canvas, 183x122cm, and instantly appreciated the hazy feel of the depicted landscape.
It made us feel like diving in this river or enjoy a long and lazy lie down on one of its banks.
About the artist
Represented by the Roger Bilcliffe gallery at this year’s London Art Fair, Philip Braham is a Scottish artist whose paintings and photographs emerge from the Northern European engagement with landscape as a metaphor for the human condition. Recent projects reflect on the temporal nature of our existence through personal recollection and collective history, set within the slowly evolving landscape that bears us forward. Fidelity to experience is fundamental to his practice, and this brings a poetic grace to his technical mastery of oil painting and silver-based photography.

Well Hung are delighted to announce Dale Grimshaw’s first solo show at Well Hung Gallery. Pride and Prejudicebrings together a body of work based on a ‘two worlds’ theme that Dale has been developing over the last few years. The work contains a strong political message, depicting portraits of threatened indigenous people, mostly from Papua New Guinea, which collide with familiar symbols of the privileged western world, producing a jarring effect that emphasises their powerlessness.
More recently, Dale has become involved with the political struggle to free West Papua from Indonesian occupation. This bitter and hard fought struggle is rarely reported in the West and through his work, Dale has been supporting Benny Wenda, the campaigns leader and long term champion Peter Tatchell, in raising awareness in the UK.
Due to Dale’s involvement with this Campaign his latest work is moving towards a subtler and more emotively lead approach to painting. Contrasting with the earlier, more graphic representations of Western culture, Dale has begun to incorporate softer references to his cultural identity, for example graffiti interspersed with decorative wallpaper motifs. This makes the figures themselves more personal and touching, reflecting his increased interest in the plight of individuals and the intensity of their cultural identity, which is so at risk.
Dale’s work has always been boldly figurative and has been inspired by his strongly held humanitarian beliefs. However, this political message is always achieved by an emphasis on powerful direct emotions and a deep empathy for his subjects.

Background
Dale Grimshaw was born in Lancashire, in the North of England. During a difficult childhood, his drawing and painting became extremely important to him. He developed his skills at college, firstly with an Art Foundation course at Blackburn College and later to Degree Level, studying Fine Art at Middlesex University.
Dale Grimshaw has a successful gallery career, having exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally, including five solo exhibitions with Signal Gallery, London. His exhibitions have been widely recognised in the press and online, articles have been published in The Independent, Juztapoz, Art of England Magazine and Widewalls. His works are collected internationally, alongside celebrities including Adam Ant and The Prodigy.

More recently Dale has been invited to festivals nationally and internationally as well as painting many iconic walls across London, where he lives.

Too late to go this year, the Hong Kong International Art Fair, opening this Thursday 17th, is something I should definitely pencil in for next year as when its popularity ever increasing, the quality of the art on display is becoming something.
Take this event for example – KAWS, or Brian Donnelly at Galerie Perotin. First solo show in Asia for KAWS and debut event for the latter, you know it is going to be good, don’t you. This Hong Kong branch of Galerie Perrotin is the newest outpost of the Paris based gallery.
This show focuses on KAWS’ latest paintings and CHUM, the Michelin Man-inspired caricature is well represented again, as it has been in loads of his past shows but this time CHUM looks ominous almost threatening. About 50 vertical paintings, 7 feet tall and 1 feet wide, definitely give a sense of grandeur to the show

Banksy has finally dropped again in London and this time, he has put a strong emphasis on different signs of pop culture which suits so well street art and especially stencils.
Some says that that one of his new work is a clear reference to The Clash London Calling album cover, another one refers to Futurama’s Bender and in the last one, Keith Harringâ’s Dog can be clearly recognized.

The show opened on 19th September and is now in full swing for a three week duration. Within his broad repertoire are portrayals of gangsters, multi-nationals, evolution, politics, religion, the class system and general Mickey taking. This new body of work however is a closely guarded secret, very few images or sneak peeks will be available before the show is open.
What perhaps is most understated is that he does not require a production team. All his ideas are original and he cuts his own stencils. T.Wat is a modern master craftsman, elusive and one who shuns the limelight and instead lets his work do the talking.
